Thomas Was Alone

“Thomas was a drink”

With the move to London and developers being kind enough to drop into the bar and lend support it seemed to good an opportunity too good to pass up to pester Mike Bithell to let me create something based on Thomas Was Alone. Again the pun came first, Thomas Was Patron then it was about matching the character colours and getting Mike to craft a little narrative to match

The Game

Thomas Was Alone is an indie puzzle-platformer video game created by Mike Bithell, originally released as a Flash-based browser game in October 2010. Before being expanding and making its way to consoles a few years later.

In the game, the player controls one or more simple rectangles representing several out-of-control artificial intelligence entities, working with the shapes to get each to their individual endpoints on each level. Each shape is characterized with a unique name and personality, including the eponymous Thomas, which are conveyed to the player through the use of a narrator voiced by Danny Wallace, whose performance earned the game a BAFTA Games Award.
